Have you really seen Big Ben? Probably not
Often referred to as 'Big Ben', the real name is 'Elizabeth Tower'. Big Ben is the name of the bell inside the clock tower. Words: Bell, Clock, Tower.
Bell: The large metal object inside which 'rings' every hour, on the hour. On the hour means when the hour is 1.00, 2.00 etc
Clock: This is the whole of the white area in the picture. It is the place you can see the time / tell the time on the tower. The white part of the clock is known as the face, while the black strips which point to the numerals to the show you the minutes and hours are known as hands.
Tower: The vertical structure which supports the clock on this occasion.
Originally built in 1858 this building was known simply as the clock tower until it was renamed to honour Queen Elizabeth II's diamond jubilee in 2012
So when people ask you 'have you ever seen Big Ben?' You can ask them if they have seen the bell hahaha because not many people have.
